A. The Final Hour: Finishing the TaskSpeaker: Sam Jefferson
This workshop will whet your appetite for making a difference with your life and set your compass in the most strategic direction for your personality and gifts to engage the remaining that have yet to hear of Jesus. We will consider the remaining unreached people groups, the trends facing us that must be considered and current/potential methods to employ. In "The Final Hour: Finishing the Task", strategies in reaching these last remaining ethnic groups are explored. B. Introduction to the World Christian JourneySpeaker: Wayne
The call to integrating a global missions worldview with your life originates from Christ's mandate-- "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations." From there, the journey begins. What is the role of the individual Christian in God's global plan? This workshop is an introduction for those who have been stirred to live a missional life, making an eternal impact in all the marketplace and ministry settings He brings us to.
C. Church Response to the Global/Economic CrisisSpeaker: Carol Davis
The financial crisis of 2008 rippled across the world and brought forth a period of uncertainty which has tested our generation. Its effects cascaded into every socioeconomic class in society, creating political and societal tension. What are the spiritual implications, and what is the role of the church during such a time as this? How do we as the body respond?
D. Addiction in the Asian CultureSpeaker: Yoko Saito
The prevalence of destructive addiction within the Asian culture is accompanied with the guilt and shame intertwined with the addiction, which often cripples those afflicted from seeking and obtaining help. How do the addicted break free from their chains, and how do we best minister to them? The workshop explores how addiction can be a prevalent struggle for those entering the mission field. Additionally, the workshop explores how mission workers can help address addictions in the regions they are serving.
E. Cultivating Community to Serve and Experience GodSpeaker: Lyn Johnson
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." -- John 13:34,35 The blessings of community are immeasurable, and the fruit of community enriches and transforms the individual and the body of Christ. Developing authentic relationships-- whether in the mission field or at home-- is an intentional process. Explore in this workshop how true community can be desired, established and enjoyed.
F. What is the Gospel: Understanding its depth and simplicitySpeaker: Jeff Louie
For the final paper for my theology sequence at Western Seminary, I ask the students to define the Gospel in one word, in three words, in twelve words, in forty-eight words and then in 500 words. The reason is that most Christians, and even seminary trained ones, cannot express the Gospel in simplicity, or at length. We use the term "Gospel" all the time, but do you know what it is? In this workshop, we will work through the major themes of the Gospel so that you can understand it and share it.
G. Serving out of IntimacySpeaker: Ron Miyake
Often we desire to be captivated, but struggle with seeing the Christian life as one of obligation or duty more than relationship and intimacy with the Lord. How do we grow in our relationship and intimacy with the Lord. How do we see and relate to God? How does He see us? This workshop explores growing in intimate relationship with our Lord through the understanding and knowledge of who He is, how we understand our own identity, and how this translates into our service for His kingdom.
H. Support Raising: God's way and current Asian church practicesSpeaker: Donna Dong
Support-Raising. These two words provoke anxiety, dread, and discouragement for many embarking on intercultural global or local missions. Why do we raise support, and what do we gain from the process? What do church mission committees and individual Christian supporters need to consider in their support and implementation of mission partnership with God and with individual mission-ers (missionaries)? Explore the Biblical basis for fundraising and hear about personal experiences of how God uses the process in the life of the church and individuals to impart valuable lessons of faith and trust.
I. Christ's Church in the 21st CenturySpeaker: Bill Beckham
In this workshop we will explore the New Testament design of the church. The church will be defined and described as the spiritual Body of Christ that operates as a living organism and not just as an organization. Many Christians in the 21st Century experience the dynamic life and power of the church that we see in the New Testament even in areas of persecution. However, the church in the west seems to be in decline in numbers and influence. Is the form of the church in the west the correct form that has outlived its time, a flawed form that can't be redeemed, or an incomplete form that God can complete and use? We will consider six ways the church expressed itself in the New Testament and the relevance of these expressions to the design of the church today in the west and in other parts of the world. The underlying premise of the workshop is: The secret of dynamic growth and life in the church in both the west and new areas is a return to the community life of the church we see in the New Testament. Is that possible? Let's explore it together!
J. Beyond Business as Missions-- Reaching the Global Business ConsumerSpeaker: Brett Johnson
Globalization, technology, financial interdependence and cultural trends have made what we call "the global business consumer" the fastest growing people group on the planet. We need to reach them. The questions are: How do we reach them, Who is the best suited for the job, and What is the new face of missions in light of this opportunity? K. Fuel for the JourneySpeaker panel of WCC Alumni
WCC Alumni tell how God has used speakers and friends at WCC to inspire and guide their World Christian journeys. A Q&A period will be built into the session for conferees to ask specific questions of panel members. |
