WCC 2008 Workshops

A: The Challenges and Advantages as a Woman in Ministry

Speaker: Susan Peters
Susan Peters

God is moving all over the earth in unprecedented ways. He is raising up women to preach the good news to the nations. In years past, the role of women has been confused by tradition and has had a limiting impact on the wonderful unique gifts God has placed in us. This workshop will look at the amazing ways God has used women to advance the Kingdom and address the issues that hold women back. God is calling us into partnership with godly men to show forth His glory and to be the complementing force He intended men and women to be.

B: "Normal" Sexuality - Redeemed and Pure

Speaker: Christopher Yuan
Christoper Yuan

What is "normal"? When it comes to sexuality, not one of us is entirely "normal". We are all sexually broken. Some struggle with brokenness toward those of the same gender, and most others struggle just as much in their sexuality toward the opposite sex (Matt 5:28). This workshop will reveal what a redeemed and pure sexuality looks like and how to achieve it.

C: Cultivating the Oil of Intimacy and Worship

Speaker: Dorothy Abshire
Dorothy Abshire

What does it mean to love God? Apostle Paul described knowing Christ as the "all-surpassing greatness", everything else he considered rubbish. David, a man after God's own heart, wrote the Psalms, adoring his Sovereign Lord with all his might and all his heart. Does God captivate you in such a way? Or is your love simply... duty? This workshop aims to bring you to a discovery of intimate worship that adores our Lord through His Word.

D: Unleashing Your Creativity in Worship

Speaker: Jonathan Fung
Jonathan Fung

If music can open up our hearts to worship God through our ears, can painting awaken our souls to worship Him through our eyes? Can poetry uplift our spirit to worship in words? Can film reflect His glory, or drama express His heart with our bodies? Worship is boundless, and God deserves all that we are and have. Come and discover what creative gifts He has given you, and learn how to integrate these gifts into a creativity-based worship.

E: Discover Your Calling to Arise

Speaker: Viji Cammauf
Viji Cammauf

Is God bringing you to WCC to define or clarify His purpose for your life as a World Christian? The World Christian perspective is a mindset and a lifestyle that reflects how God sees the world. This workshop will help you understand the Biblical mandate and identify the missions field where God has placed you. Discover your calling to arise, as the Almighty God works through you to fulfill the Great Commission.

F: Reaching...Loving the Poor and Broken

Speaker: Jackie Pullinger
Jackie Pullinger

Jesus has commanded us to bring His good news to the poor and the desolate and to breathe life into them. What is His heart for all His children? How do we bring light into this world of darkness? How can we, as ordinary, broken vessels ourselves, minister a gospel of hope? The speaker will share her experience of God's amazing power and love to restore and bring life to the lifeless.

G: Disability Awareness

Speaker: Sam & Helen Livingston
Sam Livingston Helen Livingston

The statistics regarding people and families affected by disability are astounding. This workshop will open your eyes and move your heart to see one of the largest unreached peoples in the world. I: Rising Above the Challenges as an Asian American for God

Speaker: Lisa Mellinger
Lisa Mellinger

As Asian Americans, we encounter unique obstacles (as well as, advantages) in our pursuit of God that stem simply from who we are in our culture, family bonds, self-expectations, values, etc. How do we allow God to release us to pursue the plan He has orchestrated for us? And, how do we utilize (not negate) who God made us to be; and run the race with endurance? We will examine what holds Asian Americans back and the unique advantages we can take hold of for God's movement.

J: Discipling Lives, Inspiring Leaders

Speakers: Brett & Lyn Johnson
Mike Tseng Nancy Tseng

Discipleship is about practically accepting people for who they are, inspiring them to dream about who God wants them to become, and helping them over the hurdles that stand in the way of getting there. This workshop will present discipleship as a life-to-life sharpening of faith, rather than programmatic mentoring. It will include testimonials from men and women who have been personally mentored by the speakers.
